The Androscoggin River has some of the best smallmouth bass fishing in the East. Brook trout, rainbow trout, and brown trout all can be found right here on the Androscoggin River, and some of these fish grow to be over 5 pounds. The average Bass is 12 to 15 inches long, but larger ones are common. I have netted Rainbow Trout up to 25 inches; May is the best month to book trips for Brook Trout Fishing in the surrounding mountain ponds, just after the ice goes out the brooke trout are ready to feed. I have boats already on some of these pristine ponds with no camps on them, we can simply hike in and start fishing.

I use John boats on the Androscoggin River for their versatility. They are stable, light, and durable and can get in and around the rocks and cover more miles by using the outboards. My 16 foot John boat, that I use the most, is real work horse. Two fishermen can easily stand up and fish at the same time with room for all their gear. It is also very easy to get into and out of.

For the fly fisherman, the river can offer the thrill of seeing bass blow up on your fly one after another. In shallow water there is nothing like it! The Androscoggin River runs clear enough that you can see the bass come out from under a rock before they come up and hit your fly, and then… hang on!

An 18-inch smallie doesn't like to give up, and will make several runs before you get them to the boat.

I have a large selection of custom designed flies that I have made, that work very well for catching small mouth bass on this river. They are waiting for you to cast, book your trip today.

Umbagog Lake to the Rapid River Trip, this trip consists of a beautiful ride up the Umbagog Lake to the Rapid River; home of some of the best fly fishing for brook trout in Maine. The Rapid River is a fly fishing only, catch and release, and barbless hook river allowing it to sustain trophie sized brookies.

Umbagog Lake is known for it’s smallmouth fishing and in May they are in shallow water giving the fly fishermen an opportunity at some early season smallmouth. So this trip can be a combination of smallmouth and trout or just brookies.

Day trips or overnight trips are also available at remote campsites on the river. For more details call me at 207-562-6083.
